Pictures of Branding on a Ranch in the Nebraska Sandhills

In May 2006 we traveled to the Nebraska Sandhills to photograph the annual event of branding calves on a ranch where our friends Jason and Kim Taylor live and work.  Here they still brand the old fashioned way.  That is neighbors come from miles around and get the job done in a hurry.  There were about 25 or 30 cowboys and they branded 600 calves before lunch. Then we had a big feed. It was a well organized and efficient operation.  The Nebraska Sandhills are just as the name implies.  Rolling hills of sand covered with grass. There is an abundance of water in the area and it is ideal for ranching.
